Telugu Wedding Menswear: What to Buy, What to Stitch
Telugu wedding menswear — for the groom, both fathers and close family — splits into two kinds of shopping: pieces bought ready, such as the pattu pancha and kanduva and white wedding shirts, and fabric that goes to a tailor first, such as shirting, suiting and pant material. Both need planning, but the stitched half needs two to three weeks with the tailor.
Get this split wrong and the usual result is the same: a family realises ten days before the muhurtham that the shirting was never given to a tailor. Below is what falls into each category, and roughly when to buy it.

Goes to your tailor first
Shirting, suiting and pant material are sold as cloth by the length — plain, striped or self-textured, in the weight a wedding calls for. Your own tailor cuts and stitches it, which is normal in Telugu wedding shopping and not a shortcut we are avoiding — it simply means the timeline matters.
The tailor timeline, working backward from the muhurtham
Two to three weeks is the minimum a tailor needs for shirts and trousers, and that is from the day the cloth reaches them, not the day you buy it. A rough schedule:

Families who leave shirting and suiting for a later visit are the ones who call us in a hurry the week before the wedding. Buy it alongside the silks on your first trip and hand it to your tailor immediately — the pattu pancha and Kashi Yatra set can always be finalised closer to the date, since they need no stitching at all.

Questions families ask
Do you sell readymade trousers for the wedding?
No — only white wedding shirts are kept readymade, because they are always needed at short notice. Pant material is sold as cloth for your own tailor, matched to the shirting.
How far ahead should we give fabric to the tailor?
Two to three weeks minimum, from the day the tailor actually receives it. Buy the shirting and suiting on your first shop visit rather than your last, so the timeline is not tight.
What exactly is in a Kashi Yatra set?
A plain pattu dhoti and kanduva for the groom's short mock-pilgrimage scene before the muhurtham, plus a decorative cloth for the ceremonial umbrella and walking stick he carries.
Is the pancha stitched, or is it a length of cloth?
It is unstitched — a length of silk or cotton draped and tied, not cut or sewn. That is why a pancha and kanduva can be bought ready and worn the same day, unlike shirting.
Can the groom wear the same pancha for Kashi Yatra and the muhurtham?
Some families do, changing into a fresh one only for madhuparkam and after. Most prefer a separate plain pancha for the Kashi Yatra walk and keep the good silk pancha for the muhurtham itself, since the mock pilgrimage is a short, informal scene.
