Everything a Telugu wedding needs, in cloth
This is the complete Telugu wedding clothing checklist: every saree, ritual cloth and men's fabric a wedding needs, organised into six categories and 38 items with quantities, in the order the wedding actually runs. The mandapam cloths in section six are the ones families most often forget, and the purohit will ask for every one of them.
Madhuparkam — the white set
The unbleached handloom set worn before the muhurtham. Both sides must match: whatever border colour the bride's saree carries, the groom's pancha and kanduva carry the same.
- Madhuparkam saree — bride1Pure white unbleached handloom cotton with a red, yellow or green border. Traditionally dipped in turmeric water before the muhurtham.
- Madhuparkam pancha and kanduva — groom1 setUnbleached cotton in the same border colour as the bride's saree. Bought together so the borders match exactly.
- White wedding shirt1–2Worn with the pancha. The one readymade line we keep, because it is always needed at short notice.
Pasupu, nalugu and mangala snanam
Turmeric yellow across two or three mornings. The bath itself ruins cloth, so the mangala snanam saree should be an older or simple one — not the good pattu.
- Mangala snanam saree1A simple yellow cotton saree or an old half saree. It will be soaked in turmeric and oil — do not use a good one.
- Pasupu / nalugu function saree1Yellow pattu or a yellow half saree for the function itself, when photographs are taken.
- Yellow pancha for the groom1For the groom's nalugu on the same morning.
- Yellow cloth for the elders2–4Simple yellow cotton for the muthaiduvas who perform the nalugu.
Muhurtham and the bride's silks
The lagnam pattu cheera is the wedding's principal saree — traditionally brought by the maternal uncle or gifted by the groom's side. Around it sit three or four more silks for the other functions.

The men's set, complete
The groom's side is where most families run short, because it is half cloth and half readymade. We keep the ritual silks and the fabric; your own tailor stitches the shirts and trousers.

Pettubadi and family gifting
The exchanges between the two families. These are counted carefully and remembered for years, so it is worth writing the names down before you shop rather than deciding at the counter.
- Sammandhi cheera — the two mothers2Heavy pattu exchanged between the mothers. Usually the most expensive gifting sarees on the list.
- For the two fathers2 setsPure silk dhoti and kanduva, or formal shirting and suiting lengths.
- Aadapaduchu — the groom's sister1–2A high-grade silk saree for the sister who performs the kalikandla harathi.

Thamboolam, ritual cloth and daanam
Two very different things families forget: the bulk gifting, which is bought by the hundred, and the purohit's ritual cloths, which are small, cheap, and absolutely required on the mandapam.

Sarees and pattu, the ritual cloths, the men's pancha and kanduva, white wedding shirts, shirting and pant fabric, inners, towels, handkerchiefs and blouse pieces by the hundred. That is the whole reason to make one trip instead of four.

Questions families ask
How many sarees are needed for a Telugu wedding?
For the bride alone, plan on five to seven: the madhuparkam, the mangala snanam saree, a pasupu or nalugu saree, the lagnam pattu cheera for the muhurtham, a fresh silk for the Satyanarayana vratam, and a reception outfit. Pettubadi and family gifting adds another twelve to twenty-five depending on how many relatives are counted, and thamboolam blouse pieces are bought separately by the hundred.
What is madhuparkam and why must both sides match?
Madhuparkam is the pure white unbleached handloom set worn before the muhurtham — a bordered cotton saree for the bride and a matching pancha and kanduva for the groom. The border colour must be the same on both, which is why the two are bought together rather than separately by each family.
Do you sell readymade shirts and trousers?
Only white wedding shirts, because those are always needed at short notice. Everything else in menswear we sell as cloth — shirting, suiting and pant material — for your own tailor. Allow two to three weeks for stitching before the muhurtham.
How many blouse pieces should we buy for thamboolam?
One for every married woman attending, plus a margin. Most families buy between fifty and three hundred. It is better to have twenty spare than to run out on the day, and unused pieces are easily used later.
Can you send a wedding set abroad?
Yes, for a full function set — six sarees or more. We do not post single sarees. Tell us the function on WhatsApp, see the fabric on a video call, and we post the set by India Post with a tracking number.
