A 90-day Telugu wedding shopping timeline
This is a 90-day Telugu wedding shopping timeline, worked backward from the muhurtham so the tailor gets real weeks of lead time instead of a rush job. It starts with confirming the date and guest count, and ends with the final fitting and a last check against the full checklist the week before.
Why ninety days
Ninety days is enough time for the tailor to get a proper first fitting and a second one before the muhurtham, for pettubadi to be settled calmly between two families rather than decided at the counter, and for anything that needs to be sourced specially to arrive without asking anyone for a favour the week before. Fewer than ninety days is common and entirely workable — the order below still applies, just compressed — but two things cannot be rushed: the tailor, and anything ordered in bulk from outside our regular stock.
The timeline, working backward from the muhurtham
Shirting, suiting and pant material are sold as cloth, not as finished shirts — the one exception is white wedding shirts, kept readymade. Everything else in menswear goes to your own tailor, and a tailor wants two to three weeks at minimum for a proper fitting, more during the months when every family in the district is stitching for a wedding at once. Sourced items need a head start
Not everything sits on our regular shelves. Larger quantities in one specific colour or border — thamboolam blouse pieces by the hundred, a matching gifting set, a particular weave — are sourced through our wholesale lines rather than pulled from stock that afternoon. The rule of thumb is around fifty pieces and upward: ask on WhatsApp as early as day seventy-five, not day ten, and we will tell you honestly how long it will take rather than promise a date we cannot keep. Families ordering from abroad should start earlier still
A full function set posted abroad adds steps that a local trip does not: a WhatsApp video call to see the actual fabric, careful packing, and international transit that commonly runs to one or two weeks before customs, plus a few more days through customs itself. Begin well before the ninety-day mark if you can — one full function set, six sarees minimum, still applies, and starting early is what gives WhatsApp the time to work the way it is meant to. If you can only protect one date on this whole timeline, protect the tailor's. Every other choice can be made a week later than planned without real damage; a rushed fitting cannot be undone once the shirt is cut.

Questions families ask
When should we start wedding shopping?
Ninety days out is a comfortable start, and it works even if your muhurtham is confirmed later — just compress the same order of steps. The two things that genuinely cannot be rushed are the tailor and anything ordered specially in bulk, so protect time for those first.
How much lead time does a tailor need for shirting and suiting?
Two to three weeks at minimum, and longer during the months when every family in the district is stitching for a wedding at once. Buy the fabric on your first shopping trip, not your last, and hand it over immediately.
What should we buy first, and what can wait?
Men's fabric and anything that needs sourcing go first, because both depend on someone else's time — the tailor's and the supplier's. Choices the two families make together, like pettubadi, can follow once the fabric is already with the tailor.
When should we order thamboolam blouse pieces in bulk?
Once your guest estimate is reasonably firm, which is usually four to six weeks out. That is late enough for the headcount to mean something and early enough to add a specific colour if a relative asks for one.
How early should families ordering from abroad start?
Well before the ninety-day mark if possible, because a video call, packing and international transit all add time on top of the shopping itself. Starting late is the single biggest risk for families abroad, more than any other step in this timeline.
What if the muhurtham date changes after we have already started shopping?
Nothing already bought is wasted — silk, ritual cloth and gifting sarees keep. Re-check only the two time-sensitive pieces: whether the tailor still has the weeks he needs, and whether anything on order has to be re-timed with us on WhatsApp.
