What a thamboolam bag is for
Thamboolam is the small parting gift given to every married woman (muttaiduva) who attends — traditionally betel leaves, areca nut, turmeric, kumkum, a coconut, fruit, and a piece of cloth, packed into one bag per guest. It is separate from pettubadi, which goes to specific relatives, and separate from the couple's own clothing.
The bag, the betel leaves, the areca nut and the small provisions are a separate purchase — from a bag seller or a provision store. What we supply is the cloth that goes inside it: the ravike gudda that gives the gift its weight, plus the white towels and handkerchiefs many families add alongside.
Colour follows the occasion. Yellow and red are the commonest choices for thamboolam, bottle green appears often, and a gold-bordered piece lifts a plain colour without changing the price bracket. Most families settle on one or two colours for the whole batch, so every guest's piece looks the same.

One blouse piece per muthaiduva attending, with a spare margin already built in — better to carry a few home than to run short during the function. The first column counts married women, not total guests: as a rule of thumb, a little over half your invited guests. Towels and handkerchiefs are scaled alongside.

Figures include roughly ten percent spare. If the function is spread across two days — mangala snanam and reception, say — some families split the count and buy two batches in different colours.

Do you sell the thamboolam bags themselves?
No — bags, betel leaves and the small provisions are sold by bag sellers and provision stores. We supply the cloth that goes inside: blouse pieces, towels and handkerchiefs, in the quantities a wedding actually needs.
How many blouse pieces do we need for our guest count?
As a starting point: about 110–120 for 100 guests, 165–180 for 150, 220–240 for 200, and 330–350 for 300 — each figure already carries a small spare margin. Tell us your actual number and we will confirm it.
What colour blouse piece is normally used for thamboolam?
Yellow and red are the commonest, bottle green is popular too, and a gold-bordered piece dresses up a plain colour. Most families pick one or two colours for the whole batch so every guest receives the same piece.
Can we get a specific colour or a gold border in bulk?

Do the towels and handkerchiefs need to match the blouse piece colour?
No, they are usually kept plain white regardless of the blouse piece colour — that is the standard combination most families use, and it is simpler to buy and to hand out.
Is thamboolam only given by the bride's side, or by both families?
Both sides usually give it, at their own functions — the bride's family at their events, the groom's family at theirs, and again at a joint reception if one is held. Each occasion is counted and bought separately.
