What seemantham is, and when families hold it
Seemantham is a blessing ceremony for a woman in her first pregnancy, usually held in the seventh, eighth or ninth month depending on family and regional custom. Elder women of the family bless the mother-to-be, often with a mangala harathi and a bangle ceremony, and the day usually ends with a festive meal for those who attend.
It is sometimes called simantham, and in other regions similar functions are held under different names. What stays constant across most families is the blessing itself — the exact rituals and their order vary from house to house, so it is worth asking your own elders how yours is done.
What to wear
Green, and the other traditional colours
Green is the most commonly chosen colour for seemantham, associated with new growth and considered auspicious for the occasion. It is not the only option — some families follow a different family colour, or choose yellow or a traditional maroon instead. There is no single rule that applies to every household.
What is gifted
A seemantham blouse is often cut a little looser than a wedding blouse, since the day falls weeks or months before delivery and the fit will not be the last word. Mention that it is for seemantham when you buy the piece, and we will guide the cut accordingly.

The saree the mother-to-be wears is usually gifted by her own mother or mother-in-law. Some families also give a smaller gift to the grandmothers and the women closest to the household.
Is seemantham celebrated the same way in every family?
No. The month, the exact rituals and their order vary from house to house and by region. Ask your own elders how yours is traditionally done before you plan the shopping.
